Symphytum officinale, commonly known as comfrey, is one of the classic herbs of traditional herbal first aid—and modern research has given us some pretty compelling reasons to understand why it has remained so popular.

Comfrey contains naturally occurring compounds including allantoin, which has long been associated with tissue and skin support. Clinical research has also investigated topical comfrey preparations for musculoskeletal pain, sprains, bruising, and the recovery of uncomplicated fractures, making this one of those traditional herbs where modern research is beginning to catch up with centuries of herbal use.

This salve is formulated for targeted topical use when your body has taken a little more abuse than you'd like. It's particularly useful for bruises, bumps, sprains, strains, sore areas, and general musculoskeletal discomfort, and comfrey's traditional use extends to supporting the body's natural recovery following uncomplicated bone injuries.

I've also included German chamomile for its traditional soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Chamomile complements comfrey beautifully, creating a formula focused on calming irritated tissues while supporting the body's natural repair processes.

This is not your everyday body moisturizer. It's a functional herbal salve designed to have a place in your first-aid cabinet, ready for the bumps, bruises, strains, and other assorted evidence that apparently being an adult means occasionally injuring yourself doing completely ordinary things. It is also great to have on hand for those of us raising Wild Thornberries.

Apply a small amount topically to intact skin over the area needing attention and massage gently. For external use only. Do not apply to open wounds or broken skin. Because comfrey contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, topical comfrey products should be used as directed and are not appropriate for prolonged or excessive use.

    Saved my elbow

I didn't think this would work but I was desperate for my elbow to feel better so I tried it at. At the end of the first week, I was pain free for the first time in 6 months. By the end of the third week, I could tell a difference in how I was functioning. I would recommend this to anyone dealing with an injury in their tendons.
