Service Description

Stress is not something we can—or should—eliminate from our lives. It is a biological response designed to help us respond to challenges, adapt to change, and keep moving through the world. The problem comes when the stress response stays activated, our bodies struggle to return to baseline, or the demands of our lives continually exceed our capacity to recover. This class takes a different approach to herbalism and stress. Instead of asking, “What herb will make me less stressed?”, we’ll ask: “How can we support the body’s ability to respond to stress, recover from it, and return to balance?” We’ll explore what happens inside the body during the stress response, including the chemical and physiological processes involved, and why herbal support isn't about making the stressor disappear. Herbs can't change the job you hate, the relationship that isn't working, the boundaries you haven't set, or the life that no longer fits. They can, however, support the systems involved in the stress response and help create more capacity and resilience. We’ll explore important herbalism terminology, including adaptogens, anxiolytics, antidepressants, neuroprotectives, nervines, and other related categories, looking at what these terms actually mean and how they relate to the nervous system and stress response. We’ll also discuss how different herbs may influence different aspects of the body's response rather than treating “stress” as one single problem. But the herbs are only part of the conversation. We’ll look at root causes, lifestyle changes, nervous-system support, and the practical work of creating a life that supports your well-being. Stress can be information. Sometimes it tells us we need rest. Sometimes it tells us a boundary needs to change. Sometimes it tells us that the way we're living no longer aligns with who we are. Our job isn't to silence that information. Our job is to learn how to listen to it. Herbalism can be one of the tools that gives us enough space and capacity to make different choices and sometimes, that little bit of breathing room is all we need to create radical shifts. This is a mid-level herbalism course, but anyone with a genuine love of learning is welcome. Come curious about what plants can do, what they can't do, and how we can use them as one tool for creating more resilience, fulfillment, connection, and joy.
